10 WAYS TO MAKE YOUR 2018 YOUR BEST FITNESS YEAR
A brand-new year is upon us and it is the perfect opportunity to revamp your fitness goals! It is easy to fall into the same old boring routine at the gym, which can eventually leave you unmotivated and stunt your progress. Start 2018 off right and use some of these ideas to mix things up and get excited about fitness again.
1. Master the Basics
Long-time gym goers can sometimes find themselves trying to keep things interesting by focusing on all kinds of new and improved workouts. This is not a bad thing, but it may be a good idea to take a step back and make sure you’ve perfected the basic moves – squats, deadlifts, chest press, pulldown, row, and overhead press, etc. Knowing these well will make the rest of your strength training a breeze.
2. Commit to your Warm up
It is not a waste of time. It’s worth it to prevent yourself from pulling a muscle or getting otherwise injured because you wanted to jump right into action. Light cardio, some stretching, and a few light reps to ease into things are all good ideas.
3. Engage in Some Friendly Competition
Adding that little extra motivation to be better, will help you become better. Whether you set goals with a friend, enter a race, or just try to beat yourself, some competition never hurt!
4. Take a Class!
You can find fitness classes for almost anything. It will help you find new ways to work out, and it’s fun! You might even make some new friends too.
5. Hire a Personal Trainer Once
Personal training can get expensive, there’s no denying that. You’d be amazed how much you can get out of investing in just one session, though. You will be able to improve your form and get the most out of your efforts.
6. Mix up the Cardio
Do some intervals, or try one of the preset programs on the machines. The variety of using multiple machines in one session can help you stay focused and keep you from settling into a slow and steady workout that is less than effective.
7. Get out of the Gym!
If working out and weight lifting has become a drag, try some different activities. Rock climbing and kickboxing are popular ways to get active and get a workout without going to the gym. There are many others to consider as well.
8. Get a Foam Roll
Foam rolling is a great way to ease into recovery after an intense session. You want variety in the intensity of your workouts, but proper recovery after a going hard is essential. If you can’t afford a massage, then foam rollers are great.
9. Do Yoga
The benefits of yoga are common knowledge by now, and everyone should do a little bit of yoga. While any yoga is good for you, consistent yoga is best. It will increase your strength and flexibility while also relaxing your mind and body.
10. Buy New Workout Clothes!
Everyone loves treating themselves to some new stuff once in a while, and you’d be surprised how motivated you are to work out when you’ve got some great new gear to show off. Slipping in to Phiten clothes can be a great start!
