Betty Hiroko Suzuki - Bio

Hiroko “Betty” Suzuki is a woman’s professional football player with quite an impressive history. Originally from Tokyo, “Betty” joined Lady Kong in 1995, a Japanese women’s tackle football team, as defensive tackle. In 1998 she became the captain of the team and in 2000 she became owner. In 2000, she also tried out for a professional league in the US and became the first female Japanese professional football player. In her first year in the US, she was selected in the first round and was selected to play in the all-star game. Betty has played for the Daytona Beach Barracudas, Arizona Caliente, Long Beach Aftershock and the San Diego Scorpions in the WPFL (Women’s Professional Football League) and also for the Philadelphia Phoenix, Antelope Valley Attack and All Valley Attack in the NWFA (National Women’s Football Association). She’s also played for the Los Angeles Amazons and California Quake in the IWFL (International Women’s Football League). In 2012, Betty played for the San Diego Surge whom ended up winning the championships that year. In 2013 Betty played for the Pacific Warriors in the WFA (Women’s Football Alliance) and currently plays as a lineman for the San Diego Surge. Lesser known is the fact that Hiroko Betty Suzuki won a gold medal in the women’s middleweight division at her first attempt in the 2005 US Sumo Open. She also has credentials as a health and sports counselor, health care trainer, and a mental health counselor. Betty has many dreams, one of them to make her own team, Lady Kong, a member of a professional american league.
